New Teacher Talk: An Amergis Shoutout & Spotlight
The New Teacher Talk podcast, hosted by education experts Dr. Anna and Dr. Beth, is a valuable resource for educators at all stages of their careers. We at Amergis Educational Staffing were thrilled to be mentioned in an April episode that explored exciting pathways for early career educators to grow professionally.
In an earlier episode, Dr. Anna and Dr. Beth discussed opportunities new teachers have for professional development, and they highlighted the benefits of working with staffing agencies like ours to explore different assignments and regions. As Dr. Anna noted, working with an agency to find shorter terms contracts can be “a wonderful idea because sometimes you just feel that you need to change. The great part about a one-year placement is that you know that there’s a start date and an end date. Sometimes it’s helpful in your life.”- underscoring the value we place in helping educators find flexibility and varied experiences in their careers.
We were excited to then have one of our own team members featured in a subsequent episode of New Teacher Talk. Ryan Lamping, who is Vice President of Sales for Amergis Education Staffing, along with his wife Jordan, joined the show to share their unique perspective as parents of a child with autism.
In this insightful episode, Ryan and Jordan Lamping discussed their experiences raising their six-year-old son, Maddox, who was diagnosed with nonverbal autism at 18-months-old. Their conversation offered valuable takeaways for educators working with children on the autism spectrum.
Key Takeaways from the Lampings’ Interview:
- Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): Ryan emphasized that autism presents differently in each individual, highlighting the importance of approaching each student as an individual.
- Communication Strategies: The Lampings shared their experience with using assistive technology to help Maddox communicate, demonstrating the impact of innovative tools in education.
- Effective Teacher Qualities: Patience, flexibility, and open communication were highlighted as crucial qualities for teachers working with children on the autism spectrum.
- Setting Appropriate Goals: The importance of understanding what progress looks like for each child was stressed, with Ryan noting that “progress is progress,” no matter how small.
- Preparing for Transitions: The value of pre-year meetings between parents and teachers was discussed as a way to ease transitions for children with autism.
This episode not only provided valuable information for educators but also showcased the depth of experience and perspective that our team at Amergis Educational Staffing brings to the field of education. We’re proud to be associated with resources like the New Teacher Talk podcast that contribute to the professional growth of educators. Whether through our staffing services or by our own personal stories, we are committed to doing whatever we can to enrich the educational community.
